The portrait session took place at Upham Beach Park in St. Pete Beach at sunset. I photographed these siblings and individual portraits to celebrate some important milestones for each of them.
They were on vacation in St. Pete Beach and decided to take advantage of the beautiful location as a backdrop for their portraits. I started capturing portraits of them by the sea oats and foliage until I could see the sky starting to transform for sunset.
Then we made our way down to the rock jetty to capture some more poses with the water in the background. Once the sun was just above the horizon, it made a whimsical background for beach photos. I love the way the sun reflects in the shallow waves.
Upham Beach Park
Upham Beach Park is one of our preferred locations in St. Pete Beach. I love the rock jetty, it makes the most perfect spot to watch the setting gulf coast sun. I also love the sea oats as it’s always nice to get some greenery in the background of your portraits.
Did you know that St. Pete Beach is the sunset capital of the Florida? I am not too surprised, gulf coast sunsets are incredibly dreamy and vibrant.
What is the best time to take pictures on the beach?
Golden hour is the best time to take portraits on the beach. This is generally right after sunrise and about an hour before sunset. In the summer, we usually schedule sunset photography sessions between 7:15PM-7:30PM for the best natural lighting conditions.
As St Petersburg Florida photographers and beach lovers, we are obsessed with a good sunset. You have probably seen all of the photographers come out to the beach during golden hour to capture portraits and nature photography. This is because the lighting is very even and adds a beautiful tone to everything.
